About Us

Enabling, empowering and educating

Kumi Community Foundation (KCF) is a UK-registered charity supporting children, families and communities in Eastern Uganda, with a particular focus on those affected by disability, poverty and limited access to healthcare.

Founded by Physiotherapist Elspeth Robinson over 20 years ago, the charity has grown from a single volunteering visit into a well-established organisation. Today, KCF is supported by a team of volunteer trustees in the UK and dedicated local volunteers in Kumi, Uganda.

Stories that inspire hope

Real stories from the Kumi Community

Meet Isaac

After losing his leg in an accident, Isaac arrived at a KCF outreach clinic using a prosthesis he had made himself from scrap metal and plastic. It was painful, poorly fitting and limiting his independence.

But mobility was only part of the story.

Isaac supports his family by knitting and selling jumpers, but his broken knitting machine meant his livelihood was also at risk. KCF arranged for Isaac to receive a properly fitted prosthetic leg and funded a new knitting machine and materials to help him get back to work.

Today, Isaac isn’t just supporting his own family. With KCF’s support, he has the opportunity to teach others his skills, creating new routes to income and independence within his community.

It’s what Helping Others to Help Themselves looks like in practice.
